Samosa Recipe | Easy Indian Vegetable Samosa Recipe

Samosa Recipe | Easy Indian Vegetable Samosa Recipe : Samosa is a baked potato pastry. It is all time favourite and most popular snack in India. It is a small triangular crispy and spicy snack. I love samosas and eat it as evening snack on alternative days. It is very light and you can have it with tea or red or green chutney. It’s a popular street food in India and no matter where you go, you will get samosas everywhere. Or you can say it is a local cuisine in India. It is a kind of traditional food and can also be prepared at home in just 15-20 minutes. It is basically a crispy dough outside and spicy potato stuffing inside. But you can make samosas with different fillings and dough. In many northern parts of India, they serve Punjabi chole and dahi with samosa and no one can explain that delicious taste. Today we will make a veggie samosas for kids. As we all know kids hate veggies and this is my initiative to help moms while preparing food for kids. So let’s start with the samosa recipe

  • Now cut the circle into half and slightly wet its edges with water using finger tips.
  • Fold it to the make the cone and put 2 tsp mixture in the cone.
  • Gently seal the edges.
  • Do the same process for every samosa.
  • Take a pan and add oil to it.
  • Deep-fry the samosas until it appears light golden in color.
  • Serve hot samosas with chutney.
BRIEF COOKING PROCESS :

How to make samosa dough : Sieve maida. Take a big bowl and add 2 cup of Maida flour (Fine Flour) to it and pour 2 tbsp of Ghee/refined/Clarified Butter in it. Add 1/2 tsp carom seeds to it. Mix it gently. To make it softer, add some water and knead it. To avoid lumps knead it with warm water. Rub it with your fingers and palm until the dough becomes soft. When the Dough is ready, cover it with damp cloth and keep it aside for 15-20 minutes.

Prepare The Stuffing : Take 3-4 potatoes and wash them. Boil them and drain and cool. Remove the skin of potatoes and mash them properly. Take a bowl and add mashed potatoes to it. Add 3/4 cup of boiled peas and mix it. Add 3-4 finely chopped green chili, 3/4 tsp garam masala, salt (to taste), 1/2 tsp turmeric powder, 1 tsp red chili powder, 1/2 tsp dry mango powder/amchur and finely chopped coriander leaves to it. Mix it gently and thoroughly. If you want add 1/2 tsp lemon juice to the mixture as it will enhance the taste. But this is optional. You can also add finely chopped onions to the mixture. You can also roast the stuffing. For that take a pan and add 1 tbsp oil to it. Heat it and add cumin seeds and fennel seeds to it. Let them sizzle. Add potato mixture to the pan for 5-6 minutes. Mix it and when done put it on the plate and keep it aside to cool it. Taste to check salt and add more if required.

Make Cone From Dough : Make small balls form dough. Flatten the balls with the help of roller. Now cut the circle into half like semi circle. Now take one of the semi circle and wet it edges with water using finger tips. Join the two ends of plain. Fold it as shown in video. Try to make a cone. Do not break it and do gently. Put 2 tsp of potato mixture in the cone and seal the third side of cone using very little water. Our samosa is ready to fry.

Deep-Fry Samosas :  Take a pan and oil/clarified butter to it. Heat the oil/clarified butter and deep fry the samosas in it. Fry the samosa until it turn golden in color. Take out the somosas with the help of slotted ladle, to drain extra oil. Turn off the flame. Put the samosa on tissue paper or kitchen towel.

                 OR

Bake The Samosas : Bake the samosa for 15-20 minutes in microwave at 360 degree. No need to preheat the oven. But I found the fried samosa better than the baked samosa. But go for baked samosa if you are on strict diet. Samosa is ready.

Our Indian Cuisine i.e. Samosa is ready now. Serve hot with hari chutney or imli ki chutney.

TIPS :

You can add onions to the potato mixture.

You can also add raisins and cashews.

Carom seeds are optional.

If you have leftover potato curry use it instead or preparing potato mixture.

Use tissue paper or kitchen towels to remove excess oil.

You can also refrigerate the samosas and fry them when you want it.
