Potato Cutlet Recipe is a delicious combo of bread and potatoes. Cutlet is an American cuisine. It is basically a non-veg cuisine. But today we are going to make potato cutlet in Indian version. And this version make this cuisine a vegetarian cuisine. We can make cutlets in various ways like with lots of veggies. And a very good way to give children a veggie snack. It is very light snack and you can have it as starter or with tea in evening. To save time, I am preparing cutlets with mashed potatoes and onions. You are going to love it. INGREDIENTS FOR potato cutlet recipe
- Potatoes – 4-5
- Bread Slices – 5-6
- Onion – 2
- Oil – 3 Tbsp
- Green Chilli – 1/2 cup
- Red chili powder – 2 Tsp
- Salt – To Taste
- Turmeric Powder – 1/2 Tsp
- Dry Mango Powder/Amchur – 1/2 Tsp
- Garam Masala – 1/2 Tsp
- Corn flour – 2 Tsp
- Lemon juice – 1/2 Tsp
- Coriander Leaves – Finely chopped
- Cottage cheese – Optional
HOW TO MAKE potato cutlet
quick steps :
- Boil 3-4 potatoes and mash them.
- Add 1/2 red chili powder, 2 finely chopped green chili, finely chopped coriander leaves, 1/2 tsp turmeric powder, 1/2 tsp garam masala and 1/2 salt to the mashed potatoes.
- Add finely chopped onions to it.
- Add 1/2 tsp lemon juice.
- Add 2 tsp corn flour and knead the mixture.
- Make small round balls from it.
- Take a bowl of water. And dip the each slice of bread in water.
- Take it out immediately.
- Squeeze it gently and put 1 small round ball on it.
- Cover the ball with bread slice.
- Take a pan and add 2 tbsp oil to it.
- Deep fry cutlets.
- Keep the cutlets on tissue paper to remove excess oil.
- Garnish it with grated cheese and coriander leaves.
- Serve hot with green or red chutney.
BRIEF COOKING PROCESS :
Preparation : Take 3-4 potatoes and wash them. Boil them and drain and cool. Remove the skin of potatoes and mash them properly. Take 2-3 onions and chop them finely. Take 5-6 slices of bread and remove the brown edges of it. Keep it aside until required.
Prepare Potato mixture : Add salt (to taste), 1/2 tsp turmeric powder, 1 tsp red chili powder, 1/4 tsp dry mango powder, 1/2 tsp garam masala to mashed potatoes. Mix all the ingredients thoroughly. Add 1/2 tsp lemon juice to the mixture. Add finely chopped onions and finely chopped coriander leaves to it. Add 2 tsp corn flour to it and knead it to make a soft dough. Taste to check salt and add more if required.
Make Shapes From Dough : Place 1/4 tsp oil on you palm and take a small part of dough. And start making small round balls from it. You can also make various shapes like stars, hearts and many more to impress the kids.
How to make cutlet : There are two ways to make cutlet. One by using bread crumbs and another by using wet bread slices. I prefer wet bread sliced cutlet. Take a bowl and add 1 cup water to it. Take a slice of bread(edges removed). Dip the slice in water and take out immediately. Squeeze it gently (as shown in the video) to remove the excess water. Now take the wet bread slice on your palm and put 1 small round ball on it. Now cover the ball with wet bread slice carefully and try to make thin cutlet. Repeat the same process for each cutlet. But if you want to make cutlet form bread crumbs do the following. Take brown or white bread( you can also combine the both breads). But use dry bread only. If you have fresh bread then bake it in oven to make it dry. Then grind the dry bread to make bread crumbs. Bread crumbs is ready now. Now take potato balls and roll each ball in bread crumbs. And your bread crumb cutlet is ready.
How To Cook Cutlet : You can cook cutlet in three ways. By deep frying, by toasting on tawa or by grilling it in toaster. I will tell you every way on by one. Firstly we will deep fry the cutlet. Take a pan and add 3 tbsp oil to it. Heat it and add 3-4 cutlets to it. Then deep fry the cutlet until it turns golden brown in color. Take Out cutlets with the help of slotted ladle, to drain extra oil. Secondly we will toast the cutlet if you do not want to deep fry it, Take a tawa and add 1 tsp oil to it. Add 2-3 cutlet to it and slightly toast it from both sides. Shallow fry them on medium flame. It will take 2-3 minutes. Last, we will grill the cutlets. Take a toaster machine and add 3-3 cutlet on each side. Close the toaster and wait to turn the green light on. When done take out the cutlet on the plate. No oil required to make cutlet in toaster.
Garnishing : Garnish it with grated cheese, coriander leaves, green and red chutney. Serve hot with tea or with soft drink. Enjoy.
